The Story of Sissi

Sissi Ice Cream is a family business whose history dates back to the time of the political change in Hungary: newlyweds Andrea and János Koncz took over the operation of an ice cream parlor in Zamárdi with no hospitality experience but with great enthusiasm and dedication. That initial passion project has now become a non-compromising, multi-award-winning ice creamchain, an ice cream workshop where, alongside the large and varied selection, every bite reflects the creators’ professional humility and love for ice cream.

In the meantime, Sissi moved to Gödöllő, where Andrea and János quickly turned a former antiquarian bookstore into an ice cream parlor, and they adopted the name Sissi, referring to the culture of Gödöllő. Since then, Andrea has become an official ice cream master, and today, her creativity is praised by the unique and innovative flavors of the ice cream parlor, which regularly receive recognition from both the public and professionals.

The Sissi Philosophy

Sissi aims to evoke the best ice cream experiences of childhood: vacations, times spent with grandparents, and those years when having ice cream with family or friends was the highlight, the festive moment of the day or even the holiday.

Additionally, it joyfully faces the new challenges posed by changing consumption habits and the evolving guest demands in gastronomy, offering a rich selection for those choosing according to special diets and those craving creative sweets.

Andrea Koncz, founder, owner

Andrea Koncz first came into close contact with ice cream over 30 years ago. She worked with ice cream for seven years at the time, then her life took a completely different direction. With the birth of her children, her passion for healthy eating intensified, and when she began dreaming of her own ice cream parlor again, she decided to make ice cream desserts using only healthy, pure ingredients.

She opened her first Sissi ice cream parlor in the main square of Gödöllő, established an ice cream factory, and continuously developed a distinctive ice cream selection that now includes nearly a hundred items.

Over the years, she opened Sissi ice cream parlors offering Sissi products in more and more places nationwide and won numerous awards (including: Ice Cream of the Year Award 2021, Balaton Ice Cream Awards).

All of this fills her with pride and is important to her because the awards show that she is on the right track; but she feels much greater success in the fact that there are always huge lines in front of her ice cream parlors and that people love her products—this is the main feedback for her.

Ice Creams and Ingredients

Sissi ice creams are made with artisan care, high professional knowledge, and the best ingredients even in large volumes, resulting in rich, flavorful, and naturally colored ice creams. Sissi ice creams made with real ingredients and uncompromised effort. They are not frothed, do not melt, and do not collapse instantly.

Sissi ice creams are of high quality, and the creators seek the best without compromise both in terms of ingredients and production: the scoops contain everything needed for the best quality cooked ice cream, and nothing unfit has a place. The milk and cream-based ice creams contain real milk, cream, cottage cheese, and butter, and during the production of Sissi ice creams, plant-based pastry creams, margarine, or egg substitutes are not used, which makes these ice creams silky, creamy, rich, and substantial.

Sissi’s fruit ice creams are made exclusively from natural ingredients, with an exceptionally high fruit content, and their taste reflects the cooling and fresh flavor of real fruit.

Every scoop is made with traditional methods; Sissi offers Italian-style cooked ice cream, and no volume-increasing or frothing procedures are applied during production.

Sissi sources its ice cream ingredients exclusively from the most reliable sources. Some ingredients come from Italy, while others, such as walnuts, melons, and apricots, are purchased directly from Hungarian producers.

Other ingredients and decorative elements of Sissi’s creative ice cream specialties (nut creams, roasted nuts, jams, sponge cakes, chocolate decorations) are also made in their own workshop using artisan methods.
